I have always interested in such iPad experiments but there was nothing more then nonsense dirt. But I believe that this new gadget could be powerful instrument to experiment with colours, shapes and layouts.
As a recent example and the prove of this belief is David Hockney' exhibition at the Royal Academy of Art. He shows that iPad could be the full value sketchbook. Of course you should get used to it but the same is with any other "real-life" tools like pen and brushes.
